**Gangland Machete Attack Thug Guilty of Supermarket Murder Bid**
A vicious thug has been found guilty of carrying out a savage machete attack in a murder bid on a crime kingpin’s brother at a supermarket, just hours after receiving a police visit warning him of threats to his safety. George Baigrie, 42, sliced into the arm of Dale Richardson, the brother of crime kingpin Mark Richardson, with a machete and chased him through aisles of a Tesco store in Edinburgh. Shoppers and staff at the supermarket witnessed the horrifying incident and immediately called emergency services. Dale Richardson managed to escape from Baigrie, who was wearing a camouflage snood, and ran to a waiting getaway car. Richardson sustained a serious wound to his left wrist that required a 10-hour operation at St John’s Hospital in Livingston to repair injuries to tendons, nerves, and an artery.
Baigrie and his accomplice, Kevin Richardson, 24, initially denied attempting to murder Dale Richardson but were both convicted. Baigrie, who had previously served a 12-year sentence for a murder bid in 2003, was found guilty of the full attempted murder charge. Kevin Richardson, the getaway driver, was convicted of a serious, life-endangering assault.
Earlier on the day of the attack, police had visited Baigrie’s home to inform him of threats to his safety. Despite this warning, Baigrie proceeded with the attack on Dale Richardson at the supermarket. DNA evidence, CCTV footage, and items recovered from Baigrie’s home linked both men to the crime scene and the weapon used in the attack.
Following the jury’s verdict, Baigrie and Richardson were both remanded in custody pending their sentencing in February. The trial judge stated that they were found guilty of a serious crime and required background reports before sentencing.
