In a heartwarming display of generosity, thousands of gifts have been donated to the Hamilton Advertiser 2024 toy appeal, benefiting over 1000 children in Hamilton on Christmas morning. The Salvation Army in Hamilton became a hub for a wide array of presents including toys, games, books, vouchers, sweets and pyjamas, as the community rallied together to support the festive campaign.
Volunteers from the Salvation Army worked tirelessly to sort through the massive influx of donations, expressing awe at the overwhelming generosity of donors. Salvation Army captain Wendy Leisk described this year’s appeal as “wonderful,” with donors and volunteers alike being amazed by the outpouring of support.
Over the past six weeks, residents of Hamilton have been dropping off gifts at various collection points, with businesses, churches, and community groups all contributing to the cause. On the final day of the appeal, hundreds more gifts were donated, reflecting the community’s spirit of giving. Staff from South Lanarkshire’s social work department will now distribute the gifts to the children in need.
Amidst the donations, Rocca restaurant in Cadzow Street stood out by donating £1000 and collecting numerous gifts from patrons. Other organisations such as Blantyre Old parish church, Happy Feet Nursery, Mecca Bingo, and many individual donors also joined in the charitable efforts.
Leona Greenan, the toy appeal co-ordinator, extended her gratitude to all supporters of the 2024 appeal, noting the overwhelming response that covered various areas in Lanarkshire. The collective effort ensured that every child on social work lists would have a special gift to unwrap on Christmas morning, spreading joy and festive cheer throughout the community.
In conclusion, the Hamilton Advertiser 2024 toy appeal exemplifies the true spirit of Christmas – a time for giving, kindness, and coming together to support those in need. The outpouring of generosity from businesses, churches, community groups, and individual donors has made a tangible difference in the lives of over 1000 children, demonstrating the power of collective goodwill and compassion during the holiday season.
