Vauxhall has announced significant price reductions on its electric Corsa and Astra models in a move to increase sales of electric vehicles and meet government targets. The company has slashed prices and introduced new entry-level models to make electric cars more accessible to consumers.
Under the zero-emission vehicle mandate, car manufacturers are required to ensure that 22 percent of cars sold in 2024 are fully electric. Failure to meet this target could result in substantial fines. In response to this mandate, Vauxhall has lowered the starting price of the Corsa Electric range to £26,895 for the Corsa Yes edition. The Astra Electric range also sees a price reduction, with the Griffin special edition hatchback priced at £34,995 and the Sports Tourer estate model at £36,145.
The Vauxhall Corsa Yes model boasts a 50kWh battery with a claimed maximum range of 221 miles, along with features such as a 10-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless entry, and start. On the other hand, the Astra Griffin comes equipped with a 54kWh battery offering a range of 256 miles, twin 10-inch digital screens for infotainment and driver display, rear-view camera, and heated seats and steering wheel.
Customers can also benefit from substantial discounts on top-spec models like the Astra Sports Tourer Ultimate electric model, which sees a price drop of £4,765 to £40,695. Additionally, the new long-range Vauxhall Corsa Electric in Ultimate trim is now priced at £34,435 after a reduction of £4,150. Vauxhall is sweetening the deal by offering a free EV wallbox or £675 credit towards public charging, as well as 50,000 Tesco Clubcard points worth up to £1,000 with Clubcard Reward Partners.
Furthermore, Vauxhall is introducing a new five-year Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) option for their electric vehicles, aiming to align the monthly costs with equivalent petrol models on a four-year PCP. The car manufacturer is committed to introducing the all-electric Frontera later this year, alongside a petrol hybrid model, both starting from £23,495.
As the automotive industry continues to shift towards electric vehicles, Vauxhall’s strategic pricing adjustments and incentives aim to make EV ownership more appealing and accessible to a wider range of customers.
