Traditional music legend is coming to Ayr next month

Traditional music fans in Ayr are in for a treat as Scottish music legend Alan Reid is set to perform at the Ayr Phoenix Folk Club’s first music night of 2025 on Tuesday, January 7. Reid, a former member of the well-known Battlefield Band, has been a prominent figure in the Scottish folk music scene since 1975. With a career spanning decades, Reid has recorded almost 30 albums and is celebrated for his instrumental prowess as well as his songwriting skills.

Having joined Battlefield Band in 1969, Reid’s influence can be felt through his contributions as a principal songwriter for the group. His music was even featured in the National Theatre of Scotland’s production of “The Glasgow Girls” in 2014, showcasing his versatility and impact beyond the traditional folk music realm. In recognition of his contributions to Scottish music, The Battlefield Band was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

Apart from his work with Battlefield Band, Reid has also released two solo albums, “The Sunlit Eye” and “Recollection,” showcasing his talent as a solo artist. Fans can expect a captivating evening as Reid takes the stage at the Abbotsford Hotel in Ayr, supported by the club’s floor singers. The event promises an enchanting blend of traditional Scottish music and heartfelt storytelling, making it a night not to be missed by music enthusiasts in the area.
