Christmas Day turned into a scene of horror in New York as a taxi ploughed into a crowd, injuring multiple people. The incident occurred just after 4pm at Herald Square on 6th and West 34th Street, one of New York’s busiest areas. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) reported that several people were hurt when the car struck pedestrians in the bustling commercial intersection.
Herald Square, known for being crowded, especially with the presence of the flagship Macy’s store, saw the car, identified as a New York cab, mount the curb and hit a group of pedestrians. The NYPD confirmed that several individuals were taken to nearby hospitals and are currently in stable condition. While three people sustained minor injuries, three others faced more serious injuries, albeit non-life-threatening.
Reports from the emergency services indicated that two women and a child were among those hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by the cab. Videos captured at the scene show fire engines and first responders amidst a crowd of onlookers on Christmas Day.
