A Castle Douglas mum is set to accomplish an inspiring charity challenge this Hogmanay. Anna Cameron has been on a mission to cover 1946 miles since September 26 to raise funds for Marie Curie, in memory of her late father, Stuart Beck. Stuart, a nature enthusiast from Castle Douglas, had a deep connection to the Galloway outdoors. Anna embarked on this challenge as a tribute to him, aiming to honour his love for the outdoors and the support Marie Curie provided during his final days.
Anna’s journey involved cycling, running, hiking, walking, swimming, and kayaking the equivalent of 1946 miles, symbolizing the year Stuart was born – 1946. Despite facing setbacks such as illness and a broken bike chain, Anna remained committed to her goal. She had hoped to cover 30km a day but unforeseen circumstances made it a challenging endeavour. With the support of friends and her five-year-old daughter Ceitlin, Anna persevered through the difficulties and remained determined to complete the challenge.
Throughout her endeavour, Anna has explored various outdoor activities, from road cycling to mountain biking, all in places that held significance to her father. Ceitlin, her daughter, also joined in on walks through her grandfather’s favourite forests, adding a personal touch to the challenge. As she nears the finish line on Hogmanay, Anna has raised over £2,000 for Marie Curie’s Dumfries team, showcasing her dedication to both the charity and her father’s memory.
Anna’s story serves as a testament to the power of determination and love in overcoming obstacles.
