A notorious drug lord, Jon Moorby, has surprised many by proposing to his Thai girlfriend, Lalida Baribon, from his prison cell. Moorby, aged 54, was involved in smuggling cocaine into the UK using chartered helicopters as part of an international drug ring. The gang, led by Merseyside boss Lance Kennedy, operated by dropping drugs in southern England before flooding the country with illicit substances.
After eluding authorities and fleeing to Thailand with his wealth, Moorby was eventually apprehended in 2017 on the island of Ko Mudsom. He was extradited back to the UK and began serving his 15-year sentence for drug supply charges. Additionally, Moorby received another 14 years for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. Currently going through a divorce with his wife Kelly, Moorby fell in love with Lalida during his time in Thailand.
Having met Lalida, a 31-year-old dancer, in Phuket, Moorby is now seeking to marry her. Despite their separation following his arrest, Moorby is determined to win her back, expressing his deep love for both Lalida and their daughter Lily. Speaking from prison, Moorby publicly declared his affection for Lalida and his desire to make her his wife, urging her to reach out to him.
Although Moorby is currently a high-security category A prisoner, there is a possibility that he could be released earlier under the government’s 40% early release scheme, with a projected release date in 2028. Despite facing challenges, including a recent refusal to be recategorised as a medium-risk prisoner, Moorby remains hopeful about reuniting with Lalida.
