Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank has been a vital source of support for the community, providing over 6700 parcels to individuals in need throughout the year. Despite facing declining donations, the foodbank has continued to serve those who require assistance to put food on the table. Since its establishment in 2013, the foodbank has grown to have 130 dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that families and individuals have access to essential items.
Operating from three different locations in the community, the foodbank distributed parcels four times a week, offering support to those facing food insecurity. From the beginning of 2024, they have given out 6705 parcels, with a significant portion going to families with children. Veronica Gunn, the newly appointed manager of Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank, expressed her commitment to helping those in need, emphasizing that no one would be turned away without food.
The demand for the foodbank’s services has been steadily increasing, highlighting the importance of community support and donations. Despite the challenges faced, Veronica is grateful for the generosity of the public and the hard work of volunteers who make it possible to assist more individuals struggling to make ends meet. The foodbank relies on the support of organizations such as the Trussell Trust and local businesses like Tesco and Morrisons to sustain its operations and meet the growing need in the community.
