A woman from the Midlands, Verity Went, has left many in disbelief after waking up one day speaking with a Geordie accent despite never having visited Newcastle. Verity, aged 27, shared her story of waking up with a different accent, a change that occurred following severe migraines and the diagnosis of two rare conditions. A diagnosis in 2022 revealed she had functional neurologic disorder (FND) and foreign accent syndrome, conditions that can cause unexplained symptoms related to the nervous system and alter speech patterns.
