A railway line in Scotland was closed over the weekend after a tragic incident where a person was hit by a train. The incident took place at Uddingston station at approximately 12pm on Saturday, leading to the closure of all lines between Glasgow Central and Motherwell while emergency services responded to the scene.
According to reports, commuters at the station witnessed the horrific incident. Services between Glasgow Central and Larkhall and Shotts were either cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes as a result of the closure. The line remained shut for around two hours as authorities dealt with the situation.
A spokesperson for National Rail confirmed the incident, stating, “A person has been hit by a train between Glasgow Central and Motherwell. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.” They also provided information for individuals who may have been affected by the incident, encouraging them to reach out for support.
The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched a paramedic response unit to the scene following a call received at 11:35am on the same day. Additionally, Samaritans were recommended as a confidential chat resource for those impacted by the events at the station.
