Almost 300 people supported with festive meal in Stirling Xmas Eve food drive
Almost 300 people were given a Christmas Eve boost thanks to a community effort to ensure as many locals as possible were well fed over the festive season. The Stirling Aid Christmas Eve Community Food event opened its doors at 4 pm on December 24 after five weeks of planning. The hub, located at the former Stirling Community Food premises in Wellgreen Lane, was filled with food and gifts donated by local businesses. The event was further supported by a generous donation of £1600 raised by members of the public through the Stirling Pulling Together Facebook page.
With the help of dedicated volunteers, 277 members of the public were provided with turkeys, steak pies, fresh fruit and vegetables, soup bags, portioned meals, cupboard essentials, selection boxes, flowers, and wrapped gifts. Additionally, ready meals and sandwiches were distributed to nearby homeless hostels, and surplus food was sent to the Stirling University Community Fridge after the event ended at 10 pm. The event managers expressed their gratitude to Citizen’s Advice Bureau Stirling and Stirling Aid for their vital support in making the event a success.
One of the organisers, Jen Clarke, highlighted the logistical challenges involved in collecting and organizing the necessary food for such an event. She commended the volunteers for their dedication and teamwork, emphasizing the importance of their contributions. Craig Anderson from Stirling Citizen’s Advice Bureau praised the sense of togetherness displayed by everyone involved.
The event not only focused on distributing food but also included toys and gifts for those in need. The Stirling Observer’s Give A Gift Appeal coordinator, reporter Kaiya Marjoribanks, expressed delight in contributing donations to ensure items were available to anyone requiring assistance during the festive period. Community members and businesses, including Leanne at the Book Nook, Amy from Black Lotus Barbers, and Nooch café, were acknowledged for their donations and support.
