CALA Homes (East) has announced a new project to provide 15 new homes for West Lothian Council as part of the Preston Glade development in Linlithgow. The properties will consist of two three-bedroom semi-detached houses, five two-bedroom bungalows, and eight one-bedroom cottage flats. This initiative is being financed by the council, with support from grants provided by the Scottish Government.
All 15 homes will be equipped with zero direct emission heating systems, featuring air source heat pumps to enhance their environmental sustainability by reducing carbon footprints, improving energy efficiency and lowering heating expenses in the long term. Construction is set to commence in January 2025, with a target completion date in early 2026.
George Paul, the executive councillor for housing, expressed his satisfaction with the upcoming project, stating, “I’m delighted that work will start soon to deliver new homes for rent in Linlithgow, which is an area of high demand for social housing.” He highlighted the council’s efforts to expand housing options by collaborating with developers and repurchasing former council properties to address the growing housing needs.
Paul also emphasized the significance of including bungalows in the development to cater to the increasing elderly population in the area. In addition to delivering new homes, the project will generate £1.6 million in Section 75 benefits from the Preston Glade development, including substantial funding allocated for local schools.
