NHS Lothian Celebrates Recognition in New Year Honours for Two Key Figures
NHS Lothian has recently marked a significant achievement with the recognition of two key figures in the New Year Honours list. Calum Campbell, the former Chief Executive of NHS Lothian, has been honoured with an OBE for his outstanding contributions to healthcare in Scotland. After a remarkable 40-year career in the NHS, including leading Scotland’s second largest health board for four years, Mr Campbell retired in the summer. His journey in the NHS started as a nurse, then as a health visitor, before transitioning into general management roles. He expressed his surprise and delight at receiving the nomination, attributing his success to the exceptional team he has worked with over the years.
Joining Mr Campbell on the list of honourees is Rakiya Suleiman, Equality and Diversity Adviser at NHS Lothian, who has been awarded an MBE for her dedicated efforts in eliminating discrimination and promoting equality and unity. Rakiya, originally from Nigeria, began her NHS career as a staff nurse and registered midwife 22 years ago. With a Masters Degree in Public Health Sciences and a Post-graduate Diploma in Education, she has made significant strides in her field. Rakiya expressed her gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the importance of celebrating diversity and kindness in achieving common goals.
Professor Caroline Hiscox, the Chief Executive of NHS Lothian, commended both awardees for their exceptional contributions. She highlighted Mr Campbell’s exemplary leadership and commitment, as well as Rakiya’s vital role in supporting equality and diversity initiatives within the organisation. The entire NHS Lothian community, past and present, joins in congratulating these two outstanding individuals for their well-deserved honours.
In conclusion, the New Year Honours recognition for Calum Campbell and Rakiya Suleiman from NHS Lothian is a testament to their dedication and impact in the healthcare sector.
