A tragic incident occurred in Rotterdam on New Year’s Eve, where a 14-year-old boy lost his life after being seriously injured by an explosive during a fireworks display. Rotterdam Police confirmed the devastating news, stating that the boy passed away around 8.30 pm after the incident on Watergeusstraat in Rotterdam. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, it was not successful. The police extended their condolences to the boy’s family and mentioned that an investigation is underway.
The incident took place during the National Fireworks Show in Rotterdam, where crowds had gathered for the New Year festivities. Reports indicate that the firework that caused the accident was not part of the official event organised by the local government. Following the tragedy, there were plans for music and additional screens to entertain the large crowds in attendance.
Witnesses expressed shock and sorrow over the accident, with calls to reconsider the use of fireworks and opt for organised displays instead.
