A father has been sentenced to prison after being caught with a “paedophile manual” and almost 40,000 child sex abuse photos and films. Jason Church was found to have downloaded a 170-page document providing detailed advice on finding, grooming, and engaging in sexual acts with children as young as two. Swansea Crown Court heard that Church had also downloaded over 390,000 images and videos of children, including babies as young as two months old, being sexually abused.
Police executed a search warrant at Church’s family home in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, following intelligence that indecent images had been downloaded from a device linked to the property. Officers found thousands of pictures and film clips of children being sexually abused, including 2,688 Category A images depicting the most serious forms of abuse. Additionally, a manual titled “How to Practice Child Love” was discovered on Church’s phone, offering advice on grooming and sexually exploiting children.
During his police interview, Church admitted to downloading indecent images. His defence stated that he had cooperated with authorities and sought help from a charity dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse. The court heard that Church, who had no prior convictions, had been struggling with depression since 2019, exacerbated by the Covid pandemic.
Despite pleading guilty to possession of indecent images and the paedophile manual, Church was sentenced to 22 months in prison. The judge highlighted that Church posed a risk to children and described the content found on his device as horrific and exploitative. Church will serve up to half of his sentence in custody and will be registered as a sex offender for 10 years, with additional preventive measures in place.
