Beat the Street East Kilbride is gearing up for its Go Explore week to encourage participants to discover the borough’s heritage and cultural treasures. The game, supporting Scotland’s efforts to enhance air quality and reduce pollution, is a six-week initiative motivating people to walk, cycle, and wheel for prizes. Kicking off on September 18 and running until October 30, the game has already attracted 12,167 participants who have collectively covered nearly 60,000 miles within the game area.
During the Go Explore themed week, double points will be available on Beat Boxes 81 and 74 all day on Saturday, October 5, at Calderglen Country Park for those exploring the history behind Torrance Castle. Additionally, there will be triple points on certain Beat Boxes around East Kilbride over the weekend. There is still time to join Beat the Street East Kilbride by obtaining cards from designated distribution centres or by downloading the free Beat the Street app for players aged 13 and above.
The current leaderboard sees St Kenneth’s Primary School leading in total points, followed by Crosshouse Primary School and Our Lady of Lourdes. In terms of average points, EKCC juniors hold the top spot, with Greenburn Primary School and Threshold following closely behind. South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee Chair, Councillor Robert Brown, emphasised the value of exploring the town on foot or bike to gain a unique perspective and discover new areas.
Beat the Street East Kilbride is organised by Intelligent Health on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council, with support from South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and funding from Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. Participants are encouraged to sign up and engage with the game to enjoy the benefits of physical activity while exploring the local community.
