In Wishaw, over the festive period, more than 50 emergency bags of food were distributed to families in need. The initiative was carried out by the Wishaw Community Foodbank, which is operated by members of South Wishaw Parish Church. Despite closing its doors during the holidays, volunteers ensured that struggling families received assistance during Christmas and New Year. Mari Lindsay, a volunteer at the foodbank, mentioned that the New Life Recovery Hub remained open on specific days to cater to any urgent needs.
Mari expressed her surprise at the overwhelming demand for assistance, with 50 food bags handed out in total. She highlighted the challenges faced by many individuals and families in the community, noting that the bags distributed before Christmas contained three times the usual amount of goods. The foodbank took over operations from Basics Foodbank in April 2021 and offers additional support services such as the New Life Recovery Hub and a drop-in cafe.

Mari acknowledged the generosity of various donors, including school pupils, pensioners, and hospital teams, which enabled the foodbank to provide essential supplies and prepare for the busy months ahead in January and February.
