An inspiring Scottish schoolgirl, Rosa Ross, has been honoured with a prestigious award for her exceptional support to fellow cancer patients. The 14-year-old, hailing from Edinburgh, was recognised for her “positivity and selflessness” at the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity’s annual This is Youth celebration at Buckingham Palace. Despite facing a stage four non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in January 2024, Rosa’s determination to make a positive impact led her to support other young patients undergoing similar treatments.
Rosa, a student at Trinity Academy, underwent multiple cycles of intensive treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and surgeries. Remarkably, she continued her Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) bronze award journey, demonstrating immense strength and resilience. Alongside battling her illness, Rosa selflessly dedicated her time to organizing activities for young patients, providing emotional support and comfort to those struggling with hair loss.
The young girl’s unwavering spirit and kindness did not go unnoticed. Jodie Ounsley, known as Fury from the BBC TV show Gladiators and an awards judge, described Rosa as a “shining example” of resilience and selflessness. Rosa’s commitment to spreading positivity and unity among her peers earned her the title of “boundary breaker of the year” at the This is Youth celebration.
Receiving this prestigious award alongside Rosa were six other commendable individuals, each recognised for their exceptional contributions and achievements.
