A vicious attack has taken place in HMP Belmarsh on New Year’s Day, where Urfan Sharif, the father of murdered 10-year-old Sara Sharif, was reportedly assaulted by a double killer, Steven Sansom. Sansom, who is known for dismembering a woman’s body and concealing the remains in a park, is said to have attacked Sharif with a sharp lid of a tuna can with the help of another inmate.
Sansom, 46, had been previously convicted for the murder of Sarah Mayhew, 38, using power tools to dismember her body and leaving body parts in a field in Croydon. Following this gruesome crime, Sansom is now alleged to have targeted Sharif in prison, resulting in a throat injury for Sharif, albeit non-life-threatening. The duo reportedly ambushed Sharif as he was returning to his cell after a shower, forcing him inside a cell and carrying out the attack.
Sharif had been sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison along with his stepmother, Beinash Batool, and his brother, Faisal Malik, for the murder of Sara Sharif. Sara, who endured years of abuse, was found dead with signs of extensive torture, including fractures, external injuries, bite marks, and burns. After Sara’s death, the perpetrators fled to Pakistan but later returned and were arrested.
Steven Sansom, who was also involved in the murder of a taxi driver in the past, had just been released from a two-decade sentence when he killed Sarah Mayhew. Mayhew’s dismembered body was found in a park, with further remains discovered later in a river. Sansom and his partner, Gemma Watts, were convicted of the crime, with Watts found to have aided Sansom.
