A nightclub doorman in East Kilbride has been cautioned that he could face imprisonment for an assault on a patron at Downtown. The victim of the attack, Thomas Young, sustained serious injuries including a broken ankle and a head wound during the incident. Young, aged 42 of Currieside Place, Shotts, appeared before Hamilton Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting a man, causing severe injury and impairment on December 16, 2023.
Two other doormen, Vince Spiewak, 32, of Woodburn Crescent, Bonnybridge, and Gary Bonini, 32, of Mallard Crescent, East Kilbride, had their not guilty pleas accepted. The court was informed that the victim had attempted to gain entry to the club and became aggressive leading to a physical altercation. CCTV footage of the incident was presented as evidence during the court proceedings.
Young’s sentencing has been postponed until the following month for further investigation and assessment. Sheriff John Speir cautioned Young that the severity of the matter could result in imprisonment, stating, “This is a serious matter and the threshold for custody has certainly been crossed. I’ll continue bail but you should be prepared for all eventualities when you come back to court.”
