Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park recently shared the sad news of the unexpected death of one of its beloved snow leopards. The safari park and zoo, located near Kingussie, announced that Animesh, a female snow leopard, passed away at the age of 11. Animesh was the oldest of the three snow leopards at the park, and the cause of her death has not yet been determined.
Animesh, who was born in 2013 and joined Highland Wildlife Park in 2020 from Marwell Zoo in England, had been a mother to six cubs since her arrival at the park in 2015. Most recently, she had welcomed cubs Yashin, Padme, and Maya with her mate Koshi in 2022. Yashin and Padme have since been relocated to other zoos, while Maya and Koshi remain at the park and are being closely monitored by the keepers during this time.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Highland Wildlife Park expressed their sadness at the loss of Animesh, describing her as a much-loved favourite among both staff and visitors. The post received over 700 comments, with visitors and fans offering their condolences and sharing fond memories of the beautiful snow leopard.
