Perth Leisure Pool will continue to keep its doors shut until Monday, January 13 due to ongoing issues with its swimming pool boilers. The pools have been inaccessible to the public since December 27, initially planned to reopen post-Christmas, and the entire facility has been closed since January 3, with no opening slated post-New Year. Live Active Leisure, the operator of the pool on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council, has expressed regret for the inconvenience faced by customers. Regular updates have been provided by Live Active to customers through the Perth Leisure Pool Page. The most recent update posted on January 3 mentioned: “Unfortunately, due to the persistent complications with the swimming pool boilers, compounded by the drop in outside temperatures, the closure of the entire building is necessary. “Engineers have been on-site to address the issue, and we are presently awaiting the delivery of parts that we hope will resolve the problem. As a result, Perth Leisure Pool will remain closed until at least Monday, January 13. We will share further updates as they develop. Customers can stay informed by visiting the Perth Leisure Pool Facebook page and our website for up-to-date information. For patrons enrolled in swimming lessons, our Learn to Swim programme operates for 50 weeks and guarantees at least 47 lessons annually. Refunds will be issued to individuals receiving less than 47 lessons. Our swim team is actively managing this process, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this period. Any pre-booked and prepaid activities, e.g. Adult and Child or 1-2 lessons, will be rescheduled. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and value your patience in this situation.” Initially, the gym and health suite were operational; however, due to the decreasing temperatures outside, the decision was made on January 3 to close the entire site. The gym at Live Active Leisure’s Dewars Centre next door remains open daily: Monday to Friday from 06:30 to 22:00 and weekends from 08:00 to 17:00. In September 2024, councillors approved the construction of a new pool and leisure centre at Perth’s Thimblerow Car Park to replace Perth Leisure Pool, with the latter set to be razed for affordable housing upon completion of PH2O. SNP council leader Grant Laing stated, “Perth Leisure Pool, at 40 years old, is a cherished facility but is displaying signs of aging. Persistent technical issues have rendered areas such as the walkway from Glasgow Road and the outdoor pool unusable. Unanticipated closures are becoming more frequent, and the operational costs are exorbitant. “PH2O will offer an affordable and sustainable new purpose-built facility that will cater to the community of Perth and Kinross for the next 40 years. Councillors greenlit plans for PH2O in January last year and in September agreed for its establishment at Thimblerow. Detailed proposals will be presented by officials in the due course.”
