Paisley Carer Removed from Register for Neglecting Dementia Patient’s Injuries
A Paisley carer has been removed from the register after failing to seek medical attention for an elderly dementia patient who suffered fractured fingers. Louise Clark, a social care worker at Nightingale House in Paisley, caused the vulnerable elderly person under her care, known as ‘AA’, to have their hand trapped between a wheelchair and a table, resulting in bruising and two fractured fingers. An investigation by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) found that Clark did not arrange for medical help for the injuries and neglected to report the incident to her employer, deliberately withholding crucial information.
The SSSC’s report highlighted that Clark’s actions were dishonest and lacked integrity. She showed no empathy towards the individual she was meant to care for and failed to acknowledge the severity of her negligence. The SSSC considered factors in Clark’s favour but ultimately decided that a warning would not suffice due to the seriousness of her actions. Consequently, Clark was struck off from the profession’s register on December 17, 2024.
