A Rutherglen woman, Mandy Brown, who had been confined to her home for almost five years due to mobility issues, had a heartwarming Christmas Day experience as she ventured out of her house to join the community for a special dinner. Mandy, 54, uses a wheelchair and lacks an access ramp, making it challenging for her to leave her home in Westmuir Place. Fortunately, Jane Bainbridge, the founder of the Lanarkshire charity Choosing A New And Positive Employment (CANAPE), has been organising a free three-course Christmas dinner for the local community for the past five years.
This year, Mandy was one of the 50 residents who gathered at Cambuslang Parish Church for the festive meal, marking her first outing in almost five years. Despite facing various health challenges over the years, including meningitis and a shoulder injury that led to decreased mobility, Mandy never lost hope of being able to go out again. With the assistance of volunteer elf drivers, Eileen and Heather, Mandy was able to enjoy the company of others outside her home on Christmas Day.
