Lantern-making sessions in progress for Dumfries Burns Carnival
Free family lantern-making sessions are currently taking place at various venues across Dumfries in preparation for the upcoming Burns Carnival, part of the Big Burns Supper event.
Organised by the Big Burns Supper team, these workshops offer children and adults the opportunity to get creative and make their own lanterns for the carnival procession. The first of seven sessions was held at the Dumfries Ice Bowl, where participants enjoyed not only lantern making but also additional activities, music, and free skating.
The workshops have been a hit so far, with more sessions scheduled at different locations like the Jolly Harvester Pub, Queen of the South Arena, and Dumfries Baptist Church. Each workshop features live music, poetry, storytelling, and family games, creating a festive and interactive atmosphere for all involved.
The highlight of these sessions is the presence of the Big Burns Supper mascot, Hamish the Haggis, who adds to the fun and excitement. Participants are encouraged to join in the remaining workshops, with activities planned up until the Dumfries Carnival weekend from January 17 to 19.
