Dr. Catherine Hyatt from MedExpress highlighted that HMPV is an RNA virus first identified in the Netherlands in 2001 and can cause flu or cold-like symptoms in both adults and children. While the infection is typically mild, it can lead to complications in vulnerable groups such as the elderly or immunocompromised individuals.
