Mum lashed out at woman who ‘bopped’ her son on the head with inflatable toy

A mother expressed her anger towards a woman who had lightly tapped her son on the head with an inflatable toy at a nightclub. Carla Bratkowski, aged 38, pushed Amelia Wood in the face during a heated confrontation at 4 am. The incident occurred at the Platinum Bar on Conway Street, Birkenhead, where inflatable musical instruments were being distributed. Ms Wood playfully tapped her friend on the head with one of the toys, not knowing that her friend was Bratkowski’s son.

The playful gesture led to Bratkowski reacting aggressively by screaming and shouting, escalating the situation. Bratkowski appeared in Wirral Magistrates Court on January 8 and admitted to assaulting Ms Wood by pushing her face during the argument that took place on June 30 the previous year. The court heard that Ms Wood, who has autism and selective mutism, felt extremely anxious and uncomfortable following the attack, expressing her fear of returning to Birkenhead.

Bratkowski, who has a history of previous convictions including battery and theft, explained through her representative that her aggressive behaviour was a result of being off her ADHD medication due to a national shortage at the time. She expressed remorse for her actions and admitted to reacting foolishly under the circumstances. In the aftermath of the altercation at the nightclub, Ms Wood faced another bout of violence while waiting for a taxi, this time involving Emma Davis, 20, who pulled her hair and dragged her down after an argument.

Davis, with no prior offences, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault in Wirral Magistrates Court. Bratkowski and Davis, both residents of King’s Drive, Birkenhead, were each given 12-month community orders, instructed to complete 20 rehabilitation days, and fined £120. Bratkowski was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to Ms Wood, while Davis was fined £200.

In conclusion, the nightclub altercation involving the inflatable toy led to a series of regrettable events, resulting in legal consequences for the involved parties. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of restraint and peaceful conflict resolution in all situations to prevent unnecessary harm and legal repercussions.
