They have raised alarms regarding tourism plans to promote the route as part of a Scotland-wide “winter wonderland” campaign, stating that the tourist season seems to extend each year.
In letters to politicians including First Minister John Swinney, Visit Scotland, and NC500 Ltd, residents have pleaded for urgent intervention. Susanne Ramacher-Schmitz, a resident of Sutherland, highlighted the escalating issues, saying, “A monster has been created and it is completely out of control.” The residents emphasised the challenges posed by the narrow single-track roads used by the NC500, which are also essential for school buses, post vans, and pedestrians.
