Family of 11-year-old Girl Targeted by Paedophile Outraged as He Avoids Jail

The family of an 11-year-old girl has expressed their anger after a paedophile evaded imprisonment. The young girl was lured into conversing with a Scottish charity worker, Crawford Robertson, who sent disgusting sexual messages to her before attempting to meet up with her.

Robertson took advantage of the child by pretending to be a teenager on the Snapchat app, where he started sending inappropriate messages. He even suggested engaging in sexual activities with the vulnerable victim and arranged a meeting in Edinburgh in November 2022.

The predator went to meet the child at Wester Hailes shopping centre but fled when a family friend of the girl’s parents intervened. Robertson was later apprehended by the police and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in October last year, where he pleaded guilty to two sexual offences involving the child.

Despite crossing the custody threshold, Robertson was spared jail time by Sheriff Matthew Auchincloss, who issued a stringent community payback order. The sheriff highlighted Robertson’s lack of previous convictions and his age as factors influencing the sentencing decision.

As per the court’s ruling, Robertson was placed on a social work supervision order for two years, mandated to complete 225 hours of unpaid work in the community, and added to the sex offenders register for two years. Additionally, strict restrictions were imposed on his computer use and contact with children under 18.

The victim’s parents, present at the sentencing, described Robertson as a “dangerous predator” and expressed disbelief at the lack of imprisonment for the harm inflicted on their daughter.

Crawford Robertson pleaded guilty to intentionally sending sexual communications to the 11-year-old child via Snapchat for sexual gratification, as well as attempting to meet her for unlawful sexual activity in November 2022.

Insights:
The case involving the predatory actions of Crawford Robertson towards an innocent 11-year-old girl sheds light on the dangers posed by online predators. The lenient sentencing decision has sparked outrage within the community and raised concerns about the protection of children from such heinous acts.

Summary:
The distressing incident of a young girl being targeted by a paedophile and the subsequent evasion of justice underscores the need for robust measures to safeguard vulnerable individuals from online predators. The family’s dismay at the sentencing outcome highlights the importance of prioritising the safety and well-being of children in such cases.
