A part of the Dumfries A75 bypass is scheduled to close every night for a week due to roadworks. Amey will be replacing bridge expansion joints on the A75 near Cargenbridge, with the project commencing on Wednesday night. The road closure will be in effect every night from 8pm to 6am starting on January 17 and ending on January 22.
“This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition and safety of the carriageway structures and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future,” said an Amey spokesperson. Traffic heading west will be diverted off the A75 at Cuckoo Bridge onto Glasgow Road, then onto Galloway Street, following the A711 to Cargenbridge, and finally rejoining the A75 at the Garroch Roundabout. For traffic heading east, the route will be in reverse.
Despite the roadworks, access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Local commuters and travellers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly during this period.
