Coatbridge & Chryston MSP Fulton MacGregor Urges Locals to Get Winter Flu Vaccine
Coatbridge & Chryston MSP, Fulton MacGregor, is advocating for all eligible residents in his constituency to ensure they receive their winter flu jab to safeguard themselves against severe illness. Recent data from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe) revealed that Scotland had the highest uptake of flu vaccines among individuals over 65 in the UK last winter, with 79.8 per cent of seniors in Scotland receiving their flu vaccine compared to lower rates in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
As winter progresses, only 49.4 per cent of eligible adults under the NHS Lanarkshire health board have received their flu and COVID vaccines. Although individuals have until March 31 to get vaccinated, MacGregor emphasises the importance of booking appointments promptly to protect against serious illness during the winter months. Eligible groups for the dual dose flu and COVID vaccination include pregnant women, individuals with specific health conditions, and frontline healthcare workers. Meanwhile, those entitled to the flu-only vaccination comprise primary and secondary school pupils, unpaid carers, and homeless individuals.
Encouraging his constituents, MacGregor highlighted the significance of vaccination in offering robust protection against flu viruses circulating during winter.
