Military veterans from Ayrshire Appointed as Lord-Lieutenant Deputies
In recent news, the Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Sheriff Iona McDonald, OBE, has proudly announced the appointment of two new Deputy Lieutenants from Ayrshire. The two military veterans appointed are Charles (Charlie) Coull VR and Alexander (Sandy) Fitzpatrick, MBE.
Charles Coull, a resident of Troon, has had a remarkable 37-year military career, reaching the rank of Brigadier in both the Royal Navy and Army. He now serves as a civil servant in the Scottish Government and is actively involved with the RNLI in Troon as the Launch Authority for the Lifeboat.
On the other hand, Alexander Fitzpatrick, residing near Tarbolton, also boasts a distinguished military background, serving across the globe with the Army. He has been instrumental in various initiatives, including the Armed Forces Covenant signing in Ayrshire, supporting Gardening Leave (a horticultural therapy charity for veterans), and aiding Combat Stress. In recognition of his services in Afghanistan, he was awarded the MBE in 2008.
