A man caught with a knife in Airdrie town centre has claimed he was going fishing. The incident unfolded when police officers pulled over a car for a routine check in South Bridge Street. Cameron Boag, a passenger in the vehicle, was found with a knife, and there was a strong smell of cannabis inside the car, as revealed in the Airdrie Sheriff Court.
Boag explained to the officers that he had the knife because he was going to buy fishing equipment and intended to go fishing. Although no drugs were found during the search, Boag admitted to carrying a knife without a reasonable excuse while being the subject of three separate bail orders on July 9 the previous year. Additionally, he confessed to possessing cocaine at his residence on Commonhead Lane, Airdrie, on October 29, while still on bail. Notably, an allegation of his involvement in the supply of the Class A drug was dropped.
Further investigations at Boag’s house under a warrant led to the discovery of wraps and small bags of cocaine valued at approximately £500, which he claimed were for personal use. Currently on a six-month electronic tagging order for another offense, Boag’s sentencing has been deferred by Sheriff Tony McGlennan until the following month for background reports and continued bail.
The case highlights the seriousness of carrying weapons unlawfully and the consequences individuals face when violating bail orders or engaging in drug-related activities.
