Iceland’s Second Largest Volcano Teetering on the Edge of Eruption
Iceland is once again facing the threat of a volcanic eruption as 130 earthquakes were detected near the country’s second-largest volcano, Bárðarbunga, within just five hours. The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) has issued a warning indicating the potential for an imminent eruption.
Situated beneath Iceland’s largest ice cap, Vatnajökull, Bárðarbunga last erupted a decade ago, triggering a red travel alert. Valentin Troll, a professor at Uppsala University in Sweden, expressed concerns that the recent earthquake activity could lead to an eruption.
