Mother defends mob ringleader who ‘gloated’ about stabbing transgender girl in shocking remarks
A young woman who callously boasted about stabbing a transgender girl in a vicious revenge attack is now being defended by her mother in a stunning turn of events. Summer Betts-Ramsey, a 20-year-old who was among the five attackers involved in the brutal assault, was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in youth detention, with four-and-a-half years to be served in custody, reported the Daily Record.
The attack took place at a roller disco in Harrow, northwest London, where the 18-year-old transgender girl was lured and subjected to a horrifying ordeal. She was stabbed nine times, kicked, punched, and stamped on, all while enduring transphobic abuse from her assailants. All five attackers have since been incarcerated for their roles in the crime.
Despite Betts-Ramsey sharing footage of the attack online with callous messages, and a history of prior convictions for offences like robbery and battery, her mother, Linda, has chosen to defend her daughter’s actions. Linda dismissed claims of her daughter being a ringleader and insinuated that there was more to the story than meets the eye, even citing threats that supposedly preceded the attack.
In court, it was revealed that Betts-Ramsey had a troubled upbringing marked by domestic violence and abuse, leading to a life filled with neglect and instability. Her defence lawyer highlighted her history of being in and out of care since childhood, painting a picture of a vulnerable individual easily influenced by her circumstances.
The presiding judge condemned the assault as abhorrent and driven by a twisted sense of revenge stemming from the victim’s gender identity. He termed Betts-Ramsey a “dangerous offender” posing a continued threat to society. Despite claims of remorse and intoxication during the attack, the court recognised the severity of the crime and the lasting impact it has had on the victim.
