The Porter County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call on April 25, 2024, about an unresponsive 10-year-old boy, Dakota. Upon reaching the scene, first responders discovered Dakota lying near the home’s driveway, receiving CPR from someone present. Tragically, the young boy was unconscious, not breathing, and had no pulse, with visible bruising on his lower neck and chest. Dakota was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries two days later.
An autopsy revealed that Dakota’s death was a homicide, resulting from severe brain swelling and oxygen deprivation over a prolonged period. The examination also showed organ damage and internal bleeding in his liver and lungs. Wilson, visibly distressed at the scene, recounted Dakota’s misbehaviour throughout the day, including his refusal to do chores and leaving the house, as noted in a probable cause affidavit.

Despite initial uncertainty about the events leading up to Dakota’s condition, footage confirmed Wilson’s actions of lying on the child’s midsection near his head and neck. At the time, Dakota, standing at 4 feet 10 inches and weighing 90 pounds, was significantly smaller in stature than Wilson, who measured 4 feet 11 inches and weighed 340 pounds.
