A group of urban explorers has revealed haunting images of a former psychiatric hospital in Dumfries, Scotland, as it prepares for a transformation into a five-star hotel. The team, consisting of members from Dark Explores UK, PJ Exploration, Peaky Explorers, and Derelict Detective, recently gained access to the historic Crichton Royal Hospital in Dumfries.
The eerie photographs shared on Facebook offer a glimpse into the past of the Crichton Hall, soon to undergo a major renovation into a luxurious hotel. The hospital, originally known as the Crichton Institution for Lunatics, was established in 1839 by Elizabeth Crichton in memory of her late husband, Dr James Crichton. Initially intended to be a university, the site eventually became a prominent mental health facility.
Over the years, the hospital evolved to include educational initiatives and even hosted theatre performances. Following its incorporation into the NHS post-World War II, the hospital remained operational until 2011.
