Decorated Olympic swimmer Duncan Scott spearheads Scottish Water’s first-ever Generation H2O Making Waves Challenge in Lanarkshire. The initiative aims to engage secondary school pupils in promoting water sustainability and safety, with the chance to meet Scott, who is an ambassador for the Learn to Swim programme in collaboration with Scottish Swimming and Scottish Water.

In this inaugural year of the challenge, Lanarkshire secondary school students have the opportunity to participate by completing the Global Water Project resource and creating a social media campaign to protect Scotland’s water. The winning class will benefit from a water safety lesson facilitated by Scottish Swimming and led by Duncan Scott himself.

The Generation H2O initiative is part of Scottish Water’s wider effort to inspire responsible water citizens across Scotland. The programme encourages young people to celebrate and safeguard the nation’s water resources. Additionally, primary school students in Lanarkshire have the chance to engage in the Make a Splash Challenge, aimed at promoting water safety and sustainability through a fun in-pool session and educational workshop at a national or regional swimming facility.

Peter Farrer, chief operating officer for Scottish Water, expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with Scottish Swimming to reward young individuals dedicated to protecting Scotland’s water. He underlined the importance of water safety awareness and skills in fostering responsible water citizenship among the youth.

CEO of Scottish Swimming, John Lunn, highlighted the partnership’s shared vision with Scottish Water to cultivate a generation of confident swimmers through initiatives like Generation H2O. The goal is to not only enhance swimming skills but also to impart vital life skills and promote overall health and well-being through swimming activities.

The collaborative effort between Scottish Water, Scottish Swimming, and Duncan Scott underscores the significance of water safety and sustainability education among young people. By engaging students in challenges like Generation H2O, they are not only learning essential life skills but also becoming stewards of Scotland’s precious water resources.

In conclusion, the Generation H2O Making Waves Challenge led by Duncan Scott showcases the commitment of Scottish Water and Scottish Swimming to instil a sense of responsibility and appreciation for water among the younger generation. Initiatives like this play a crucial role in fostering environmental consciousness and promoting water safety in communities, setting a positive example for future generations.
