Carsphairn Celebrates 54th Burns Supper at Lagwyne Hall
Carsphairn recently held their 54th annual Burns Supper at the Lagwyne Hall on January 17th, with a night filled with entertainment and tradition. The event, organised by a dedicated team of hall volunteers, featured a delightful three-course meal provided by Caterbirds, a Castle Douglas based catering company.
The evening kicked off with Ryan Fergusson playing harmonious tunes on his accordion, accompanying Melissa Ade in the ceremonial procession of the haggis as Poosie Nancy. James Wallace then delivered a captivating Address to the Haggis and sang a beautiful rendition of the Burns song, “Green Grow The Rashes O’.” Alec Ross followed with a compelling recitation of The Immortal Memory, garnering the full attention of the audience.
The night continued with local vet Graham Bell’s humorous Toast to the Lassies, which was met with laughter, and Fiona Durham’s witty Reply from the Toast. The highlight of the evening was Carsphairn Burns Supper Chairman, Robert McTurk’s theatrical recitation of Tam O’ Shanter, accompanied by his trusty hobby horse mare, Meg.
Attendees from near and far gathered to celebrate in this cultural event, enjoying laughter, poetry, song, and delicious food. Christine Whipp concluded the evening with a heartfelt thank you on behalf of the Lagwyne Hall Committee, expressing gratitude for the event’s success. The night ended with all participants joining hands for a rendition of Auld Lang Syne before bidding farewell until next year’s celebration.
