Twin girls tragically orphaned as mum dies of cancer just months after dad passed

Small twin girls have become tragically orphaned after the passing of their mother due to breast cancer, just months after losing their father. Hannah Whitsell, a 40-year-old mum, lost her battle with breast cancer last week after discovering a lump under her arm. Fighting the disease, she underwent months of chemotherapy and had a double mastectomy in August 2024. Celebrating her brief recovery in September, tragedy struck as the cancer returned and spread to her bones. Hannah, who grew up in Sutton Coldfield before moving to Tamworth, Staffordshire, was admitted to the hospital in December, where she spent her last weeks with her twin daughters, Isabelle and Emmy.

The twins were left devastated by the loss of their mother, who had tried to shield them from her illness. Hannah’s ex-partner had passed away in May 2023 due to pneumonia, leaving the twins to face another heartbreaking loss when their mother fell seriously ill. Now, being looked after by Hannah’s father and his wife, the girls paid tribute to their mother as she succumbed to the disease on January 14.

Hannah’s brother, Thomas, shared how devoted Hannah was to her daughters, who meant the world to her. Thomas described Hannah as an exceptional mother who did everything with her children. Despite the family’s tragic loss, they find comfort in the thought of Hannah now being reunited with their father in heaven. A GoFundMe campaign, initiated by Thomas to support the girls’ future, raised nearly £30,000 within days, demonstrating the outpouring of support and compassion towards the family during this difficult time.

This heartbreaking story serves as a reminder of the cruel impact of cancer on families and the resilience needed to endure such devastating losses. It highlights the importance of community support and kindness in providing comfort and assistance to those who are facing unimaginable grief and challenges. The strength displayed by the twin girls in the face of such adversity is a testament to the love and care they received from their parents, leaving a lasting impact on all those who hear their story.
