## Mum Shares Joy as She Takes Baby Girl Home for the First Time
Katie McArthur and John Fry have expressed their delight in welcoming their baby girl, Hope, home after six months. Hope was born prematurely, weighing only 461 grams, on July 30. She and her twin sister, Faith, were born at just 23 weeks. Sadly, Faith did not survive, and after spending 153 days at Glasgow Children’s Hospital, Hope finally joined her parents in Renfrew.
Reflecting on the traumatic birth, 27-year-old Katie shared that everything happened in a blur, surrounded by medical staff. She described the shock of giving birth at 23 weeks, highlighting the unexpected circumstances they faced during Hope’s early arrival.
Initially progressing well, Hope received care in an incubator and was fed through a tube. However, complications arose when she was just five days old, leading to a decline in her condition. Despite facing challenges such as a brain bleed and a perforated bowel necessitating emergency surgery, Hope showed resilience.
After overcoming various health issues and surgeries, including low oxygen levels and difficulty gaining weight, Hope was discharged on December 30, 2024, marking the beginning of a new chapter for her and her family. The family’s Christmas wish to have Hope home for the holidays was not fulfilled, but the hospital staff accommodated their festive spirit by allowing them to stay overnight on Christmas Eve.
