Pride of Scotland Awards launched by MND warrior and mum Lucy Lintott Smith

The Pride of Scotland Awards have been launched by Lucy Lintott Smith, a warrior fighting Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and a mother of three children. Lucy, who was diagnosed with MND at just 19 years old, defied the odds and fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother. Most MND patients do not survive more than three years post-diagnosis, making Lucy’s journey even more remarkable as she naturally conceived and gave birth to three children – LJ, AR, and SS.

Lucy, now 30 years old and from Elgin, shared her joy at being a mother to her three “miracle babies” despite the challenges she faces with MND. She bravely continues to raise awareness and funds for MND Scotland, raising over £300,000 for the cause. Her message to others battling MND is to live each day to the fullest and to keep fighting.

The Pride of Scotland Awards, in partnership with P&O Cruises, aim to recognise individuals who have made a difference in their communities. Nominations are open for various categories including Outstanding Bravery, Young Fundraiser of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement. The award ceremony, hosted by Elaine C Smith and Sanjeev Kohli, will celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Scots who inspire others with their courage and selflessness.

The Pride of Scotland Awards have garnered support from notable figures like Queen Camilla, Sir Rod Stewart, and Lorraine Kelly. The awards celebrate the best in people and highlight the positive impact individuals can have on society. The event not only honours the unsung heroes but also showcases the resilience and spirit of the Scottish community.

Lucy’s story serves as an inspiration to many, showing that determination and positivity can triumph over adversity. As nominations open for this year’s awards, the hope is to unearth more stories of courage and kindness within Scotland. The Pride of Scotland Awards continue to shine a spotlight on those who make a difference, embodying the spirit of community and compassion.
