Shocking CCTV footage has captured the horrifying moment a woman was thrown 100ft in the air after being struck by a speeding Audi in Hull. The incident left the 42-year-old victim with life-changing injuries, including a fractured spine, broken leg, torn ligament, and a dislocated knee. She required three operations to address her severe injuries.
The disturbing video shows the woman crossing a busy street in Hull when an Audi A3 travelling at over 45mph collides with her, before fleeing the scene. The driver, Luke Gough, aged 36, abandoned his burnt-out car half a mile away shortly after the collision on July 31, 2022. It was later revealed that the vehicle had sustained front-end damage consistent with hitting a pedestrian.
Luke Gough was subsequently arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to five and a half years in jail at Hull Crown Court and received a lifetime driving ban after pleading guilty to the charges. His passenger, Gemma Johnson, aged 31, also faced legal consequences, pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice and receiving a suspended jail term of nine months.
During the investigation, evidence linking Gough and Johnson to the crime emerged, including a glass shard found in the washing machine that matched the car and a blood spot in the Audi identified as a positive match for Gough. The reckless actions of both individuals drew strong condemnation from PC Fiona Graham of Humberside Police, who emphasised the potential for further casualties due to their disregard for safety.
