A woman is set to face trial over the alleged murder of Rutherglen grandmother Ann Coll. Claire Kilduff, aged 38, has been accused of killing Ann at a flat in Newfield Place, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire on either December 21 or 22, 2023. It is claimed that Kilduff repeatedly struck the 61-year-old victim with an “unknown implement or implements,” as well as stabbing her with a “sharp” object. Kilduff is also accused of transferring £320 from Ann’s bank account to her own and taking a mobile phone, along with attempting to obstruct justice.
The case was heard at the High Court in Glasgow, where Kilduff’s legal team entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf. The trial is scheduled to take place in October 2025. Ann Coll was found with serious injuries at her flat in the early hours of December 22, 2023, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A mother of three and grandmother of eight, Ann was well-known in the Rutherglen community.
Detective Chief Inspector Lynsey Watters expressed condolences to Ann’s family, highlighting their devastation at the loss. The community rallied together to support the family during the investigation. Notably, a fundraiser raised over £7000 in a few days to assist Ann’s family in the wake of the tragedy.
Ann was described as a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, deeply cherished by those who knew her. A familiar face in the local area, Ann enjoyed walking her collie dog, Lola. The last time Ann was seen alive was the day before she was found with severe injuries. The community’s support and engagement with the authorities were noted as crucial during the investigation.
