Laura Kuenssberg forced to cancel Boris Johnson interview after accidentally sending him notes

BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg was forced to cancel an interview with Boris Johnson after she accidentally sent him her briefing notes, according to The Independent. Kuenssberg, who hosts the BBC’s flagship Sunday political interview show, acknowledged the mistake, describing it as “embarrassing and disappointing.” In a message intended for her team, she inadvertently shared the notes with the former prime minister, leading to the cancellation of the scheduled interview.

The incident prompted Kuenssberg to express her frustration and disappointment, stating that while there were important questions to be asked, the interview was no longer feasible. Both the BBC and Mr Johnson’s team agreed that it was best to call off the interview in light of the circumstances.

Boris Johnson, who served as prime minister from 2019 to 2022, is set to release his upcoming memoir, “Unleashed,” next week. The former politician has already provided insights into the content of his book, discussing topics such as Covid, the Queen, and his experiences with Conservative colleagues in Parliament. Johnson reflects on the efficacy of Covid lockdowns, indicating doubts about their necessity. He also shares anecdotes about his tenure, including considering an invasion of the Netherlands to secure AstraZeneca vaccines he claims were held by the EU.

The former prime minister’s book includes reflections on his successor, Rishi Sunak, suggesting that Sunak’s actions led to the end of his own political career. Johnson draws parallels between himself and historical figures like Julius Caesar and compares Sunak to Caesar’s assassin, Brutus. While Kuenssberg had previously scrutinised Johnson’s government in programs like Panorama and conducted a series on the Conservative years, there is uncertainty about whether the interview will be rescheduled by the BBC.

Despite the interview’s cancellation, it is anticipated that Boris Johnson will engage with other platforms to discuss his book coinciding with the launch. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving story.
