A drug dealer who was caught after threatening a bar worker in East Kilbride has been sentenced to 28 months in jail. Nicki Morgan, aged 32, was found in possession of cocaine, ecstasy, and street valium along with £1,700 in cash by the police. He admitted to threatening or abusive behaviour at a bar on Eaglesham Road on May 24, as well as being involved in drug supply and carrying two knives in public without a valid reason. The sentencing took place at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
During the incident, Morgan became aggressive towards a staff member at the bar, making threats including ‘I’m going to slit your throat’. The police were called, and upon searching Morgan, they found a substantial amount of illegal substances and cash in his possession. Additionally, they discovered drugs paraphernalia such as scales, multiple phones, and a large quantity of tablets.
According to the prosecution, Morgan’s drug addiction had led him to a state of homelessness, causing him to separate from his partner and child. His defence lawyer highlighted the challenging circumstances that led to Morgan’s involvement in criminal activities, citing his homelessness and addiction as significant factors.
Despite showing signs of progress and a willingness to change during his time in custody, Sheriff Louise Gallacher emphasized the severity of Morgan’s charges and criminal record, leading to the unavoidable sentence of imprisonment. The sentence was backdated to May 27, and Morgan will undergo nine months of supervision upon release.
