Trespass to move town centre store ahead of East Kilbride mall demolition
Outdoor clothing store Trespass is set to relocate within the East Kilbride shopping centre in anticipation of the mall’s impending demolition. The store, located in Centre West, will be closing down and moving to the Olympia/Southgate area of the town center. A notice on the shop front informed customers of the closure, stating, “Closing down and relocating. Everything must go. Relocating to Olympia/Southgate.”
Centre West, constructed between 1999 and 2001 at a cost of £90 million, is scheduled for demolition. Despite being the newest section of the town centre, it has seen the departure of major stores like Debenhams, Top Shop, and Zara. Following the administration of EK, East Kilbride just before Christmas in 2022, South Lanarkshire Council approved a £62.2 million 10-year masterplan to revamp the shopping and leisure hub into a vibrant urban environment.
As part of the redevelopment, Centre West will be torn down to make way for a housing development, which is expected to introduce up to 400 new homes to the heart of the town. Other retailers, such as TUI and Muffin Break, have already relocated in anticipation of the demolition. TUI and Muffin Break moved to the former Tim Hortons unit post its closure.
Management at the Centre West mall was contacted for comment but has not responded yet.
