A man with a creepy agenda, Andrew Thomas, has been caught hiding a spycam inside a vase in a woman’s bedroom to secretly film her undressing. This shocking incident took place over a period of six months, where Thomas filmed the unsuspecting pensioner without her knowledge. The victim, a 65-year-old woman, made the horrifying discovery when she found the camera phone concealed inside the vase at the foot of her bed. The device contained more than 40 hours of intimate recordings of the woman in various states of undress.
Andrew Thomas, a 49-year-old groundskeeper, had a history of similar offences, having committed a similar crime on an oil rig ten years ago. Thomas was apprehended when the woman’s daughter and her partner caught him sneaking around inside the property. He confessed to his actions and admitted to having romantic feelings for the victim. Thomas admitted to covertly recording his victim from January to July 2023 at her home in Perthshire.
The court heard that the woman had considered Thomas a friend, as they socialised together regularly. However, Thomas expressed his romantic feelings towards her, which were not reciprocated. The victim made the shocking discovery of the hidden spycam in July 2023 while rearranging flowers in her bedroom vase. The camera phone was discreetly attached inside the vase, recording her without consent.
Upon further investigation, the woman found the camera phone attached to a power bank inside the vase, capturing over 40 hours of footage. Thomas was later caught entering the woman’s home without permission, leading to his confession of inserting the spycam. He admitted that the recordings were made for a sexual purpose due to his romantic feelings towards the victim.
As a result of his actions, Andrew Thomas was placed on the sex offenders register, and his sentencing was deferred for background reports. The sheriff highlighted the seriousness of the offence, particularly considering Thomas’s previous conviction for a similar offence in 2014. In that case, he was found guilty of recording a female colleague without her consent on a North Sea rig.
In conclusion, this disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of the need to protect individuals’ privacy and safety from such invasive and predatory actions. It is essential to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to prevent such violations of privacy and dignity.
