A tragic incident in Lancashire has left a baby boy dead and his mother fighting for her life after an alleged hit-and-run. The pregnant woman, in her 30s, was reportedly struck by a dark grey Toyota Prius while using a pedestrian crossing in Bamber Bridge. Despite medics successfully delivering her baby boy, he sadly passed away later in the hospital. The mother remains in a critical condition following the incident on Sunday evening.
In response to the incident, Lancashire Police have launched an investigation and made six arrests in connection with the case. Among those arrested are four teenagers, a 17-year-old girl from Lostock Hall, a 19-year-old man from Bolton, Greater Manchester, and a 40-year-old man from Blackburn. They are detained on suspicion of assisting an offender and attempting to pervert the course of justice. Additionally, two teenage boys aged 16 and 17, along with a 53-year-old man, all from Bamber Bridge, were previously arrested and have been released on bail as the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley from Lancashire Police’s Major Investigation Team described the incident as “absolutely appalling” and urged anyone with information or footage related to the collision to come forward. The Toyota Prius involved was last seen heading towards Preston along Station Road, about five miles from the crash site. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police.
