A Perth police officer has been hailed for his heroic actions that saved the lives of two individuals in separate incidents within the city. PC Rory Miller was recently honoured with two Royal Humane Society certificates to acknowledge his bravery. The 34-year-old officer, stationed at Perth Police Station, has nearly 14 years of experience in law enforcement.
The first incident occurred on November 8, 2022, when PC Miller, while on patrol in Perth, came across an elderly man unresponsive on South Street. Acting swiftly, he performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED) to revive the man, who was not breathing. In April 2023, PC Miller was off-duty when he noticed a man experiencing a heart attack while swimming at a local gym. He rescued the man from the water, administered CPR, and utilized an AED, resulting in both men making full recoveries.
Expressing humility, PC Miller stated, “I’ve always been passionate about helping others, which was a driving force behind my decision to become a police officer. Receiving this award is a true honour, but in my view, I am simply carrying out my duty.” He emphasized the importance of medical training for response officers, highlighting his role as a public order medic, which involves providing advanced care at events and disorder incidents.
Inspector Kris McCall, while presenting PC Miller with the two certificates from the Royal Humane Society, praised his commendable actions and underscored the significance of law enforcement officers in not just combating crime but also in providing life-saving assistance to their communities. PC Miller’s exceptional courage and quick thinking have exemplified the vital role that police officers play in safeguarding lives and ensuring public safety.
